Window piece

This lithograph makes use of the transparency qualities of the paper.
As a window piece, the work can be fully viewed when there is light going through.

On the work, the two sides of the paper are in use. On one side there is the small title and the rest of is left blanc –which is the first side that you see. On the other side a listed words (words in backwards) are printed as silhouette against a faded black
to white (top to bottom) background that covers the whole side of the page.
When the paper is held against the light the words can be read, from the simple effect

on the paper’s transparency. This effect happens almost as an appearance to the viewer, because of a small visual adjustment before you can read the words clearly. This time and movement highly interests me as it creates a moment of recognition, surprise and implies a slower tempo.

The black fading, towards white, makes the job of reading the words gradually more difficult. When the fade reaches the absolute white, the words become invisible. This graphic effect is a gimmick to the whole piece, in a response to the first word of the list: vanishing.
